Vaillant ecoTEC strip-down service

What our engineers do on a Vaillant ecoTEC strip-down, step by step.

Vaillant ecoTEC boilers have a stainless steel heat exchanger and a burner door held on by nuts, with a seal and insulation behind it. This is what our Gas Safe engineers do on a Vaillant ecoTEC strip-down service. It covers ecoTEC plus, ecoTEC pro and ecoTEC exclusive boilers.

Step by step

  1. Isolate and open up. Turn off the gas, power and water, remove the front case and check the diagnostic history for stored faults.
  2. Remove the compact thermal module. Disconnect the gas pipe to the fan, unplug the fan and ignition leads, and remove the burner door assembly with the fan and gas valve connection.
  3. Inspect burner and door seal. Check the burner surface for damage and the burner door insulation for cracking. Vaillant advises renewing the burner door seal whenever the door is removed, so we renew it, and tell you the price of the seal first.
  4. Clean the heat exchanger. Brush and rinse the coils of the stainless steel heat exchanger to remove the deposits that cut efficiency and cause noise.
  5. Clean the siphon. Remove, clean and refill the condensate siphon, and check the condensate pipe run.
  6. Check the electrodes. Inspect the ignition and monitoring electrodes and check the gaps. Renew them if worn.
  7. Rebuild and test. Reassemble, check for gas tightness, then carry out flue gas analysis and check the CO and CO2 readings against Vaillant’s limits.
  8. Final checks. Check the expansion vessel charge, system pressure, safety devices and controls, and record everything.
Common ecoTEC faults a strip-down helps prevent: F.28 and F.29 ignition faults from worn electrodes or a dirty burner, and siphon blockages.

Price

A Vaillant ecoTEC strip-down service is £175, or £260 with a landlord gas safety certificate on the same visit. If a seal, gasket or electrode needs renewing, we tell you the price before fitting it.
