Baxi strip-down service
What our engineers do on a Baxi strip-down, step by step.
Baxi boilers have a fan and burner assembly mounted on the heat exchanger, a condensate trap below, and an ignition and detection electrode. This is what our Gas Safe engineers do on a Baxi strip-down service. It covers Baxi 400, 600 and 800 combis, Duo-tec and Platinum boilers.
Step by step
- Isolate and open up. Turn off the gas, power and water, remove the case and read any stored error codes.
- Remove fan and burner. Disconnect the gas supply and electrics and remove the fan and burner assembly.
- Inspect burner and seals. Check the burner, the burner seal and the heat exchanger door seal. Damaged seals are renewed.
- Clean the heat exchanger. Clean the combustion side of the heat exchanger to remove deposits.
- Clean the condensate trap. Remove, clean and refill the trap. Blocked traps are a common cause of Baxi lockouts.
- Check the electrode. Inspect the ignition and detection electrode, check the gap and renew it if worn.
- Rebuild and test. Reassemble, gas tightness test, and flue gas analysis to Baxi’s limits.
- Final checks. Check the expansion vessel, system pressure, diverter valve operation and controls.
Common Baxi faults a strip-down helps prevent: E133 ignition failures, E160 fan faults and condensate blockages.
Price
A Baxi strip-down service is £175, or £260 with a landlord gas safety certificate on the same visit. If a seal, gasket or electrode needs renewing, we tell you the price before fitting it.
