Glow-worm strip-down service
What our engineers do on a Glow-worm strip-down, step by step.
Glow-worm is part of the Vaillant group, so many models share a similar stainless steel heat exchanger and burner door design. This is what our Gas Safe engineers do on a Glow-worm strip-down service. It covers Energy, Ultimate3, Betacom and Easicom boilers.
Step by step
- Isolate and open up. Turn off the gas, power and water, remove the case and check the stored faults.
- Remove the burner door. Disconnect the gas and electrics and remove the fan, gas valve connection and burner door assembly.
- Renew the burner door seal. Inspect the burner and insulation. As with Vaillant, the burner door seal should be renewed once disturbed. We tell you the price of the seal first.
- Clean the heat exchanger. Clean the heat exchanger coils to remove deposits.
- Clean the siphon. Remove, clean and refill the condensate siphon and check the condensate pipe.
- Check the electrodes. Inspect and gap the ignition and monitoring electrodes, renew if worn.
- Rebuild and test. Reassemble, gas tightness test, and flue gas analysis against Glow-worm’s limits.
- Final checks. Check the expansion vessel, pressure, safety devices and controls.
Common Glow-worm faults a strip-down helps prevent: F28 and F29 ignition and flame loss faults, and siphon blockages.
Price
A Glow-worm strip-down service is £175, or £260 with a landlord gas safety certificate on the same visit. If a seal, gasket or electrode needs renewing, we tell you the price before fitting it.
